Screw Links and Maillons for Paragliding Equipment
Screw links, also known as maillons or line links, are used for various load-bearing connections in paragliding equipment. Depending on the design, they can be used for connections involving lines, risers or harness components. This category includes different versions made from galvanised steel and stainless steel.
With a screw link, diameter alone is not enough to determine suitability. Important factors also include design, internal dimensions, opening size, material and breaking load. The range includes oval screw links in 4 mm - 7 mm versions as well as Delta-shaped maillons in different sizes. Breaking loads vary considerably depending on the specific design and application.
For certain harnesses, harness fittings as an alternative to carabiners can also be useful, particularly where the connection is rarely disconnected. The design, working load and webbing width must always match the intended application.
For safety-relevant connections, always follow the manufacturer's technical specifications. A screw link should never be selected solely by size or appearance, but according to the specified breaking load and working load for its intended application.
